Siri AI Release Date: iOS 27 Arrives September 14, With Catches

The Siri AI release date is Monday, September 14, 2026. Apple confirmed it at its fall iPhone event on September 9. The same day also covers iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27 and macOS 27 Golden Gate. However, the new assistant ships as a beta, in English only, and not on every iPhone.

Apple unveiled the new assistant at WWDC in June, then kept the launch window vague for three months. That ended this week. Engadget reports that iOS 27 and the new Siri arrive together on Monday, September 14. In other words, the iOS 27 release date is also the day the new assistant goes live.

Meanwhile, the Mac gets its own version. In macOS 27, Siri AI is built straight into Spotlight, so on a Mac the assistant lives inside search.

So when is Siri AI coming out? On September 14, for anyone with a supported device set to English. The longer answer is that Apple still calls it a beta. According to AppleInsider, Siri AI keeps that separate label even after iOS 27 itself leaves testing.

The label reads like Apple managing expectations. The assistant can now use personal context such as your calendar and email, then act on your behalf. That is exactly the kind of feature that breaks in odd ways once millions of people use it.

There is also an age floor. AppleInsider reports that Siri AI will not be available to users under 13, even on hardware that otherwise supports it.

This is where most people get caught out. iOS 27 itself runs on phones as old as the iPhone 11, Macworld reports, but Siri AI needs far newer chips. Apple’s own iOS 27 page says the assistant requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device.

Here are the Siri AI compatible devices at launch, based on Apple, Engadget and Macworld.

In other words, a phone from 2023 is the cut-off, and only if it is a Pro. Anyone on a regular iPhone 15 or older still gets the rest of iOS 27, just without the new Siri.

Yes, and the iPhone 17 family gets the best version of it. Engadget reports that the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air run a more powerful on-device model. As a result, speech recognition and dictation are more accurate on those phones.

There is one more hardware split. Macworld says voice customization for Siri requires an iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone Air or newer. So an iPhone 15 Pro or an iPhone 16 gets the assistant, but not every voice option.

That matters if you are weighing an upgrade this month. You do not need an iPhone 17 to use Siri AI. Still, the newest phones get the sharper speech recognition and the extra voice settings.

If you live in the European Union, September 14 changes less. Siri AI will not be available on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch there when the new software ships. By contrast, EU users on a Mac or Apple Vision Pro can use it in a supported language.

Apple blames the Digital Markets Act. In its June 8 statement, Apple described how regulators read the law. By that reading, any AI system must get nearly unlimited access to a user’s device. Apple argues that a hijacked AI could then steal data like passwords and photos.

Apple says it offered a middle route: a Trusted System Agent with an 18-month rollout plan. The European Commission turned it down. Craig Federighi put it plainly: “we do not currently have a timeline for Siri AI’s availability on iOS and iPadOS in the EU.”

Language is the second filter. On September 14, Siri AI works in English only. Gizmodo and AppleInsider both report that French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish follow in October.

So for a Spanish or Japanese speaker, the Siri AI release date is effectively a few weeks later. Apple has not named a day in October, and it has not listed which languages come after those five.

China is a separate case. AppleInsider reports that Siri AI will not be available on the Chinese mainland. Macworld also lists China as unavailable at launch.

Even on a supported iPhone, the assistant is not unlimited. Apple says certain Apple Intelligence features that rely on server-side models will have daily usage limits. Siri AI is on that list, along with intelligent photo editing, Image Playground and Apple Foundation 3 cloud models in Shortcuts.

Apple has not published the caps. Instead, it says limits vary by feature, request complexity and system demand. On top of that, AppleInsider reports that expanded access will cost a fee later. Apple has shared no price or launch date.

Then there is the Siri AI waitlist. Code found in August hinted at one. However, Apple has not confirmed whether it will use a waitlist at launch. As for how to get Siri AI on day one, use a supported device set to English. Then install iOS 27 from Settings, General, Software Update.
