Handshake opened the AI Skills Studio to its full network on Monday. The company calls it a free learning hub, and it sits on the Handshake website and mobile app rather than behind a separate signup.
In fact, that network is the reason this matters. Handshake runs a three-sided marketplace of more than 30 million job seekers, 1,600 educational institutions and about one million employers, according to the company announcement.
In addition, eleven partners built the projects: Clay, Figma, Gamma, Google, Lovable, Notion, OpenAI, Replit, Salesforce, Southern New Hampshire University and Vercel. Every lesson is free to start.

The unit of work is a mission, and a mission runs 10 to 45 minutes. You do not watch a lecture. Instead you open a real tool and build something in it.
Meanwhile, an adaptive AI Skills Instructor sits alongside you. It reads what you already know, then gives feedback through text, audio, video and prompts inside the tool you are using.
Every mission ends with an artifact: an automated workflow, a working piece of software, a dashboard. Because of this, what lands on your profile is the thing itself, not a certificate saying you finished a course.

Handshake launched with four tracks: AI Foundations, AI for Sales, AI for Education and AI for Marketing. Each one climbs the same ladder, from using AI on your own work, to building things that used to need a developer, to automating a whole workflow.

Both are run by the same company. Still, joining one does not enrol you in the other, and only the fellowship pays.
Why the Handshake AI Skills Studio Arrives Now
Handshake points at a gap in its own data. In its 2026 Network Trends Report, 58% of graduating seniors said they need a stronger understanding of AI to succeed at work. Only 28% said AI was meaningfully built into their education.
“AI is changing work so quickly that we can’t afford to wait until we have it all figured out,” said Julia Stiglitz, the company’s Chief Education and Workforce Officer.
The technology under the Studio is not new to Handshake either. It comes from Uplimit, the AI-native learning company Handshake acquired earlier. As a result, the launch reads less like a side project and more like the payoff for that deal.

No. The Studio is open to job seekers across the Handshake network, and Handshake now describes itself as a career network rather than a campus tool.
By contrast, the fellowship is stricter. That program requires US residency and valid work authorization, and Handshake states that F-1 students on CPT or OPT can take part while STEM OPT is not supported.

“A resume can’t tell you what someone is truly capable of. AI Skills Studio gives job seekers a way to build that evidence,” said Jon Stull, Handshake’s chief operating officer.
