A certificate is only worth it if a hiring manager recognises it. These are the best AI certifications for people who already have a job.
Most lists of the best AI certifications mix two very different things. On one side sit short courses that end in a completion badge. On the other sit proctored exams from AWS, Microsoft, Google Cloud and NVIDIA, plus long programs that come with projects and career support. A badge costs little and proves little. A proctored exam or a graded program costs more, but it is something a recruiter can check.
This guide is for working professionals, so we sorted it by who issues the credential. Each provider gets one entry with the AI certifications worth knowing, what they cost and who they suit. Every price below was checked on November 4, 2026 on the official page. If you are starting from zero, our best AI courses for beginners guide is the better first step.

Still Not Sure Which of the Best AI Certifications to Pick?
Pick by the job you want the credential to help with. For a career move with projects and support, TripleTen is the deepest option here. For a recognised exam on a small budget, Google Cloud Generative AI Leader at $99 and AWS AI Practitioner at $100 are the cheapest proctored choices (a Udemy prep course covers the AWS exam). Project managers should look at PMI-CPMAI first. The table puts the certifications side by side.
How we picked these certifications
We started from more than 20 AI certifications and providers named in the top-ranking guides and on vendor sites. We cut short courses that end only in a completion badge and general cloud or IT certifications that are not about AI, and kept credentials that are proctored, project-based or issued by a body employers recognise. Nobody on our team has taken these exams, so this guide is based on research: exam details and prices were read on the official pages on November 4, 2026, including AWS Certification, Google Cloud certification, NVIDIA certification and Microsoft Learn credentials. The draft was written with AI assistance, then checked and edited by Ljiljana Terzić. How we use AI.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best AI certification?
There is no single winner, because the right one depends on your job. For non-technical professionals, Google Cloud Generative AI Leader and AWS AI Practitioner are recognised, proctored and cost about $100. Engineers get more from the AWS or Google Cloud machine learning exams, and project managers from PMI-CPMAI.
Are AI certifications worth it?
They are worth it when they are proctored or project-based, because an employer can verify them. A completion badge from a short course shows interest, not skill. In both cases, the certificate works best next to something you have actually built or run at work.
What are the best AI certifications for beginners?
For a first credential, start with an entry exam such as AWS AI Practitioner, Azure AI Fundamentals or Google Cloud Generative AI Leader. If you have never studied AI at all, our best AI courses for beginners guide covers cheaper ways to learn the basics first.
What are the best AI certifications for project managers?
PMI-CPMAI is the most direct fit, because it comes from the Project Management Institute and is built around running AI projects. Microsoft AI Transformation Leader and Google Cloud Generative AI Leader are good second choices for managers who lead AI adoption.
Can I get an AI certification for free?
Partly. Microsoft, AWS and Google Cloud offer free prep material, but the proctored exams themselves still charge a fee. On edX you can audit most courses for free and pay only for the certificate.
How long does it take to get an AI certification?
An entry exam such as AWS AI Practitioner can be prepared in a few weeks of evening study. A Professional Certificate on Coursera or edX usually takes a few months at your own pace. A full program such as TripleTen takes 4 to 5 months at 10 to 12 hours a week.
Which AI certification is best to get a job?
Pick the one that matches the job ads in your field. Cloud-heavy roles ask for AWS, Microsoft or Google Cloud credentials, while career changers benefit from programs with projects and career support, such as TripleTen. A portfolio of real work still counts for more than any single certificate.
