Siri AI finally speaks more than English. The iOS 27.2 Siri AI update adds five languages, but many people who install it land on a waitlist first.

The iOS 27.2 Siri AI update is out. Apple released iOS 27.2 on October 26, and its headline change is language support. Siri AI now works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, not just English. Meanwhile, the assistant can remember earlier chats and pull answers from more of your apps.

iOS 27.2 Release Date: Out Since October 26

So, is iOS 27.2 out? Yes. Apple shipped it on Monday, October 26, alongside updates for iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV. Macworld calls it the first major update to iOS 27.

The numbering looks odd at first. Apple skipped iOS 27.1 for most people, because that version was limited to the iPhone Duo. According to The Apple Post, Apple tested iOS 27.2 in beta from September and sent out the release candidate on October 19.

To install it, open Settings, then General, then Software Update. Macworld adds that the update runs on the iPhone 11 and later, and that it carries over 150 bug fixes and security patches.

iOS 27.2 Siri AI: Five New Languages

When Apple launched the new assistant on September 14, it worked in English only. We covered that launch, and its catches, in our piece on the Siri AI release date. Now the iOS 27.2 Siri AI update delivers the languages Apple promised for October.

Here is where Siri AI language support stands after this release.

Language Siri AI support Arrived with
English Yes, in beta iOS 27, September 14
French Yes iOS 27.2, October 26
Japanese Yes iOS 27.2, October 26
Korean Yes iOS 27.2, October 26
Portuguese Yes iOS 27.2, October 26
Spanish Yes iOS 27.2, October 26
Other languages Not yet Promised for a later update

There is a catch, though. Cult of Mac notes that your device language must be set to one of the supported languages. In addition, GIGAZINE reports that Apple plans more languages later, without naming them.

The Siri AI Waitlist: Why It Does Not Work Yet

Many people update, open Siri and find nothing new. That is expected. GIGAZINE reports that after the update, the Siri AI (Beta) entry in Settings shows Added to Waiting List until Apple grants access.

Apple calls this a gradual rollout. You get a notification once Siri AI is ready on your phone. Google Trends shows the confusion clearly: searches in Spanish for the Siri AI waitlist jumped over the past week.

So how long is the Siri AI waitlist? Apple has not published a wait time. Instead, access opens in waves, so two people with the same iPhone can get it on different days.

Siri AI Compatible Devices After iOS 27.2

The hardware rules did not change with this update. Cult of Mac confirms that device requirements are the same as before. GIGAZINE lists the supported iPhones as the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and every iPhone 16 or later model.

That leaves a gap. An iPhone 11 or a regular iPhone 15 can install iOS 27.2, yet it still will not run Siri AI. As a result, owners of those phones get the bug fixes and app changes, but not the new assistant.

Apple TV is the newest addition. Macworld reports that Siri AI is coming to the second generation Apple TV 4K and newer, using a nearby iPhone for personal requests. However, it had not yet been switched on in the tvOS 27.2 release candidate.

Siri AI in France and the Rest of the EU

French support raises an obvious question in France. Searches for Siri AI France rose this week. Unfortunately, the answer has not changed: GIGAZINE reports that Siri AI is still not available in the EU or mainland China.

Apple blamed the Digital Markets Act when it delayed the feature for iPhone and iPad in June. Mac users in the EU were the exception, since the assistant is built into macOS 27.

So French, Spanish and Portuguese support mainly helps speakers outside the EU for now. Apple has given no new timeline for European iPhones.

A Smarter Assistant: Memory, Context and Excluded Apps

Languages are not the only Siri change. Cult of Mac reports that Siri AI can now recall earlier conversations. For example, it can bring back a restaurant it suggested a few days ago.

Apple also widened what the assistant reads. New sources include photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, voicemails, and better results from Safari history and your Reading List.

Privacy controls moved too. The old App Access setting is now called Excluded Apps. It lets you pick which apps Siri, Search and suggestions cannot use, and you can select several apps at once.

Apple iOS 27.2 New Features Beyond Siri

The rest of the release is a long list of smaller changes. Macworld’s rundown of the iOS 27.2 features covers them in detail. These are the ones most people will notice first.

  • Messages Suggested Actions: a chip on the keyboard toolbar offers shortcuts, such as adding a mentioned date to Calendar. You can turn it off under Settings, Apps, Messages.
  • Apple Music: a new white icon with a black note, plus darker widgets.
  • Apple TV app: viewer profiles on iPhone, with content limits for children.
  • Podcasts: New Episodes and Continue Playing replace Up Next.
  • Home: smart locks can lock after a door closes, and you get alerts for doors left open.

One expected feature is missing. Macworld says the redesigned Health app was pulled from the final build. It most likely returns in iOS 27.3, due in December.
