Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3: $449 AI Glasses and a Camera-Free Twin

The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 went on sale on September 23, the same day Meta opened Connect 2026. It costs $449, lasts an hour longer than the Gen 2 and arrives beside a surprise: Meta’s first AI glasses with no camera at all.

It is the third generation of the camera glasses Meta builds with EssilorLuxottica. Still, the formula stays familiar: a 12MP camera, open-ear speakers and Meta’s assistant living in the frame.

Instead, what changed is the detail work. The frame is slimmer, there is a customizable action button, and a new six-mic array cuts more than 90% of background noise, according to Meta’s launch announcement. On top of that, video now records in 3K.

Styles cover the Aviator, marking its 90th anniversary, the cat-eye Zena and the Wayfarer in two sizes. Altogether there are 27 frame and lens combinations.

The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 price starts at $449 in the US. That is $70 more than the $379 Gen 2 cost at launch. There was no waiting period, either: the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 release date was the keynote day itself, September 23.

Special editions vary. A milky beige Aviator with Transitions lenses sells for $579 for a limited time. Meanwhile the Kylie Jenner and LISA collaborations sit on the cheaper Meta Glasses line at $399.

Prescription lenses are supported across the range, so the sticker is a starting point. Lens upgrades therefore push most real orders higher.

On paper this is an evolution rather than a redesign. For example, battery life rises from eight hours to nine. The camera stays at 12MP, although video now tops out at 3K, and the microphones are new.

So is the upgrade worth it? If you own a Gen 2, probably not yet. Our Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 review found the basics already strong. Owners of the first generation get a much bigger jump, however, mainly in battery and call quality.

Features are converging, too. In fact, Muse, the new agent, is coming to all Meta AI glasses in the US, older pairs included. Software, not hardware, is where most of the gap closes.

The bigger surprise was the Ray-Ban Meta Audio. It drops the camera entirely and keeps speakers, microphones and the assistant. Meanwhile, the glasses weigh 43 grams and last up to 12 hours, with 48 more from the case.

Pricing starts at $349, pre-orders are open, and shipping begins October 13. Two styles are offered, Clubmaster and Burbank, across 23 colour and lens combinations.

Mark Zuckerberg pitched it as an audio product first. “Once you get used to high-quality audio, it’s just a thing that you want all the time,” he said, as reported by TechCrunch.

The spread matters. For the first time, the cheapest way into Meta AI glasses is $249, while the most ambitious pair costs five times that. As a result, the lineup now looks like a phone range rather than a single product.

Muse is Meta’s new personal agent, and Connect was built around it. On glasses it takes tasks hands-free: Meta says it can “take tasks off your plate, and turn long-term goals into action plans”.

Partners also give it something to do. Instacart, Shopify and Expedia are integrated, and retailers including Walmart, Best Buy and Sephora are signing on. For now the agent on glasses is US only.

Meta also showed Muse Charm, a keychain device with a small screen, speakers and a fingerprint sensor. In addition, a hearing enhancement feature costs $149 once and arrives in the US later this year.

Camera glasses have a reputation problem. Critics worry about people being filmed without knowing, and AFP noted that some have dubbed the devices “pervert” glasses.

By contrast, an audio-only pair sidesteps that argument. Nobody across the table has to wonder about a lens. Vishal Shah, who runs AI product at Meta, framed the camera models around transparency instead: “We wanted people to clearly understand that this was recording.”

Ultimately, Zuckerberg’s long bet explains the push. “There are almost 2 billion people in the world who wear glasses today,” he said, arguing most will eventually switch to AI glasses. The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 is the safe middle of that plan.
