Paid subscribers first, free users later: Gemini 4 Argon lands in the Gemini app with blunter answers and a 1 million token output.

Gemini 4 Argon is no longer locked to the top tier. On October 13, 2026, Google started rolling the model out in the Gemini app. However, only Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers get it for now. Free users are still waiting. Here is who has access, what it costs and how it scores.

Gemini 4 Argon Availability: Who Gets It Today

Access depends on your plan and on the product. According to Google, AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can now pick the model in the Gemini app. The table below shows where it works.

Where Plan required Reported by
Gemini app AI Pro or AI Ultra Google
AI Mode in Search AI Pro or AI Ultra 9to5Google
Antigravity desktop app and CLI AI Ultra 9to5Google
AI Studio AI Ultra 9to5Google
Android Studio (Canary) AI Ultra 9to5Google
Gemini API Pay per token 9to5Google
Free and AI Plus accounts No access yet Android Police

The rollout is staged, though. Android Police’s writer pays for AI Pro and still did not see the model on day one. So update the app and check the model picker again later.

Gemini 4 Argon Release Date and Rollout Timeline

The Gemini 4 Argon release date depends on who you are. Google announced the model on September 30, 2026, Tech Insider reported. At first, only a limited early-access program could use it.

Then the Ultra tier got it. 9to5Google notes that last month only subscribers on the $99.99+ plan had access. As a result, most paying users were left out.

October 13 changes that. The model now reaches AI Pro in the app and in AI Mode. Meanwhile, Google says enterprises and general consumers will follow “as soon as possible”. It gave no date.

Gemini 4 Argon Price: Plans and API Costs

There is no separate Gemini 4 Argon price for app users. Instead, you need a subscription. Android Headlines lists AI Pro at $20 per month and AI Ultra from $99 per month.

Developers pay per token. The Gemini API has a launch rate of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. However, that offer ends on November 30, 2026.

After that date, the rate doubles to $4 and $20. In addition, Tech Insider reports a 95% discount on cached input tokens. So long prompts that repeat get much cheaper.

Benchmarks: Argon vs Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra

Early numbers are strong, but not across the board. The Batch reports a score of 53 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index. That ties GPT-6 Astra and Claude Fable 5.1 at their top settings.

Accuracy is the standout. On the AA-Omniscience test, Argon had a 15% hallucination rate. In contrast, GPT-6 Astra sat at 51%. We covered that model in our GPT-6 Astra report.

Argon also leads the Vals Index with 68.9%, first of 43 models. On Arena’s text leaderboard it scores 1,525, ahead of Claude Opus 5.5 at 1,504. Still, The Batch says it trails Anthropic’s newest models on agentic coding.

What Is New: Direct Answers, Tasks and Connected Apps

Google’s pitch is less fluff. The company says answers are more direct, with less hedging and repetition. Moreover, the model follows tone and format instructions more reliably.

The app changes too. A new toggle in the main chat window switches between chat and tasks. Tasks was previously called Spark, according to 9to5Google. In tasks mode, Gemini keeps working while you are away.

Furthermore, Gemini now connects to more than 40 apps. Google names Instacart, OpenTable, Adobe and Shopify. For example, it can order groceries or book a table for you.

Antigravity, AI Studio and the 1M-Token Output

Coders get the biggest upgrade. Google put Antigravity’s agentic coding interface inside the Gemini macOS app. Therefore, you can switch between chatting and coding in one window.

The full Antigravity desktop app and CLI still need AI Ultra. The same goes for AI Studio. Meanwhile, the output limit is 1 million tokens, which Google calls industry-leading.

Google also shared internal results. Its engineers used the model to untangle about 6 million lines of legacy Chrome code in weeks. Similarly, YouTube cut the CPU footprint of its comments frontend in half.

Is Gemini 4 Argon Free? What Free Users Get

No, not yet. Free accounts and AI Plus subscribers do not have Gemini 4 Argon, Android Police reports. However, wider availability could come later.

For now, the picker for paying users shows four models. They are 3.5 Flash-Lite, 3.8 Flash, 3.1 Pro and 4 Argon. Because of this, lower tiers stay on the older options.

There is one free route for researchers. Google will give 10,000 scientists its highest Antigravity usage tier for six months. Applications run through a Google form.
